Hopi Candles Therapy course for ears problems and identifying the method of making candles from raw materials. The method is based on placing a hollow tube, a cone shaped made of cotton which has been soaked in honey into the ear canal, and sometimes it also contains herbs and etheric oils to enhance its therapeutic ability. The candle is gently placed into the ear cavity by about a quarter of an inch, which allows the flame to pass down. As the oxygen inside the candle burns, a vacuum and reverse pressure are formed, thus the excess of wax and impurities in the inner ear are eliminated. In addition, the candle regulates the pressure of the ear and the deep relaxation provided by rising fumes from the combustion of natural oils and herbs mixed with the candle. Its history of use goes back to thousands of years. It was believed that the ancient Greeks were the first to use this method. So, the Hopi ear candle spread to many other cultures including the Egyptian tribes, the Maya and the Inca and especially the native American Indians (the Hopi tribe hence its name). The American Indians used the burning ear candle in rituals and healing ceremonies, they even added many components to the candle to increase its overall therapeutic benefits. The candle at that time consisted of cotton, beeswax, chamomile, and St John’s wort, which is almost what is used in the current candle. Nowadays, there are many types of Hopi ear candles that are used in therapy, their forms, sizes, and content vary according to their therapeutic purpose.
It ranges in length from 18-22 cm, and the candle burns completely in about 5-12 minutes, depending on its length and according to its components, which mostly includes cotton or flax, beeswax and propolis (which is an aromatic substance collected by bees) and therapeutic herbs such as chamomile, Hypercom, lavender, and sage and more. Sometimes, Hopi candles also contain a filter or valve that prevents particles from falling into the ear and appear in their lower section the shape of a “ring” that indicates the end of treatment when the flame reaches it.
The patient lies on one side in a comfortable position and then the specialist places the candles inside the ear cavity very gently, then this candle will be burned and waits for the candle to burn completely (until the flame reaches the ring outside the candle) and then removed from the ear and put it off. The specialist will massage the area around the ears and face to encourage the lymphatic drainage and enhance the effects of the candle.
